Card themes
Nine looks for the cards you read every day. Pick one in Profile → Card Theme; it takes about ten seconds and changes nothing about how the reframe itself works.
What a card theme changes
Your cards used to have one look. Every reframe, every affirmation, every thought you typed at 2am arrived on the same flat background — which is fine, until you notice that a middle-of-the-night spiral and a mildly annoying Tuesday do not feel remotely alike, and were being handed back to you in identical packaging.
A card theme changes the surface those words sit on: the colour, the imagery behind them, how much or how little is going on. The words are untouched. What you typed, the three reframes that come back, the distortion name — all identical. This is the frame, not the picture.
How to change your theme
- 1Open MindLift and tap Profile in the bottom navigation.
- 2Tap Card Theme.
- 3Tap a theme to preview it, then keep the one that fits.
- 4Go back to Home — your cards are already wearing it. Nothing needs saving or confirming.
There is no separate save step and no confirmation screen. Switch as often as you like — the app keeps your choice until you change it again.
Three of the nine
The picker shows all nine side by side, so the fastest way to choose is to look. Three of them give you the range:
Muted tones
The quietest option — low-contrast colour with nothing competing for attention. Useful when the card itself is the only thing you want to be looking at.
Quiet mountains
Landscape behind the words, softened enough to stay readable. Gives a thought somewhere to sit rather than floating it on a flat panel.
Soft mist
Diffuse and low-definition, closer to weather than to imagery — the gentlest of the three when a hard-edged design feels like too much.
How to pick one
Pick for your worst moment, not your best
The card you'll need most is the one you open mid-spiral at 11pm — not the one you admire on a calm Sunday. If a theme feels busy when you're already overloaded, it's the wrong one, however good it looks now.
Readability beats atmosphere
A reframe only works if you actually read it. If your eye goes to the background before the words, switch to something quieter — the imagery is there to hold the thought, not to compete with it.
Changing it is not a failure of commitment
A theme that stops registering has done its job. Switching is ten seconds and costs you nothing — no reset, no history lost, nothing to re-set up.
What it doesn't change
Don't see Card Theme in Profile?
Card themes shipped in a recent release, so the row only appears once the app is up to date. Update MindLift from the App Store or Google Play, reopen it, and check Profile again.
This is deliberately a small feature. It asks nothing of you, there is no streak attached to it, and skipping it costs you nothing — the app works identically either way. It exists because the thing you read at your lowest moments may as well look like something you'd choose.
